Why donate eggs at FIVIR?

The egg donation process is an option that many women consider to help those who have difficulty conceiving due to age or health problems. To donate at our clinic in Valencia is a very good decision, because the donor has the support of the most advanced technology and an environment of total security and trust.

Is it possible to donate eggs?

The egg donation process in Spain has been strictly regulated since 1988, which guarantees ethical and medical procedures, and ensures the health of both donors and the resulting embryos. Spanish law establishes several important conditions for donation:

  • Age of Donors: Women wishing to donate eggs must be between 18 and 30 years old.
  • Anonymous: Donation is completely anonymous; this means that no knowledge or contact can take place between the donor and the recipient of the egg.
  • Informed Consent: Donors must sign a consent form, detailing all aspects of the process, ensuring that they understand and agree to the procedures involved.

This is how the egg donation process works at FIVIR

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can become an egg donor?

Egg donation in Spain is regulated by the Spanish law on assisted human reproduction techniques (Law 14/2006). The law refers to egg donation as an anonymous, altruistic, voluntary and formal act between the egg donor and the clinic where the donation takes place. Egg donors must be between 18 and 35 years old, in good physical and mental health. They must also have a medical and family history with no hereditary diseases. In addition, their eggs cannot produce more than 6 babies, as the law sets a limit of 6 live births per donor, including their own children.

How is the egg donation process?

It consists of 3 phases: Evaluation and selection, which includes medical, psychological and genetic exams; Ovarian stimulation, where the donor receives medication to stimulate the production of multiple eggs; and egg retrieval, which is performed in a minor surgical procedure under sedation.

Is it painful?

Ovarian stimulation may cause some inconvenience, such as swelling and mood swings. Egg retrieval, performed under sedation, is not painful, although some women may experience mild cramping and some pain after the procedure.

About how long does the egg donation process last?

This process can take between 4 and 6 weeks from the initial evaluation to the egg retrieval.

Are there any risks associated with egg donation?

As with any medical procedure, there are risks, even though they are rare. These may include ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), infection, bleeding or reaction to anesthesia.

Does egg donation affect my own future fertility?

There is no evidence indicating that egg donation affects the donor's future fertility. Women are born with a surplus of eggs, and ovarian stimulation only affects eggs that would have been rejected anyway during that menstrual cycle.
